Terms of use
We may update these terms. The version and date below show which one you're reading, and we'll email you before a change that matters takes effect.
These terms are an agreement between Matthew Giancristofaro, an individual ("we"), and the parent or guardian who creates a family in First Bell ("you"). By creating a family, you agree to them for yourself and for each teen you invite.
1. What the app is
First Bell teaches investing with practice money. Each teen starts with $10,000 of pretend money to invest in real companies at real prices. Nothing in the app is a real investment, and nothing in it can be bought, sold, deposited or withdrawn.
During the beta, the app is distributed through Apple's TestFlight. It may change, have bugs, or be unavailable at times.
2. Not financial advice
Nothing in the app is investment, financial, tax or legal advice: not the prices, the charts, the company information, the goals or the coach. The AI coach asks questions to help a teen think; it doesn't recommend what to buy or sell, and it can be wrong. Prices come from third-party providers and may be delayed or inaccurate.
3. Your family
- You confirm you're 18 or older, that you're the parent or legal guardian of each teen you invite, and that each teen is at least 13.
- You're responsible for your teen's use of the app, and for keeping invite codes private.
- Rewards are between you and your teen. The app never handles money. Whether, when and how you give a reward you set is up to you.
- You can see your teen's activity in the app as the privacy policy describes, except messages about their safety.
4. Using the app well
You and your teen agree not to:
- use someone else's account, or invite someone who isn't your teen;
- try to get around the app's limits, security or rules (for example the coach's daily limit or the trading rules);
- use the coach to produce anything harmful, hateful or illegal;
- copy, resell or scrape the app or its data.
We may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms. When we reasonably can, we'll email you first.
5. Your content
Pitches, goals and coach conversations are yours. You give us permission to store and process them only to run the app for your family, as the privacy policy describes.
6. Ending
You or your teen can delete an account at any time (Account → Delete account). We may end the beta, or the app, with reasonable notice by email.
7. Warranties and liability
The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. Because it uses only practice money, we aren't liable for any financial decision anyone makes, in or outside the app. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for anything related to the app is limited to $100.
8. Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email you at the address on your account before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new terms.
9. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about these terms or the app will be decided in the state or federal courts located in Kings County, New York.
